Providing double protection for unit nonresponse with a nonlinear calibration-weighting routine

چکیده
Given a randomly drawn sample, calibration weighting can provide double protection against the selection bias resulting from unit nonresponse. This means that if either an assumed linear prediction model or an implied unit selection model holds, the resulting estimator will be asymptotically unbiased in some sense. The functional form of the selection model when using linear calibration adjustment is dubious. We discuss an alternative, nonlinear calibrationweighting procedure and software that can, among other things, implicitly estimate a logisticresponse model.

Estimating Variance of the Sample Mean in Two-phase Sampling with Unit Non-response Effect
In sample surveys, we always deal with two types of errors: Sampling error and non-sampling error. One of the most common non-sampling errors is nonresponse. This error happens when some sample units are not observed or viewed but they do not answer some of the questions. The complete prevention of this error is not possible, but it can be significantly reduced. The non-response causes bias and ...
متن کاملPropensity score adjustment with several followups
Abstract Propensity score weighting adjustment is commonly used to handle unit nonresponse. When the response mechanism is nonignorable in the sense that the response probability depends directly on the study variable, a followup sample is commonly used to obtain an unbiased estimator using the framework of two-phase sampling, where the follow-up sample is assumed to respond completely. In prac...

The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) is sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). MEPS, a complex national probability sample survey, is conducted to provide nationally representative estimates of health care use, expenditures, sources of payment, and insurance coverage for the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population. It comprises three component surveys w...
متن کاملA Simulation Study of Alternative Weighting Class Adjustments for Nonresponse When Estimating a Population Mean from Complex Sample Survey Data
Results are presented from a simulation study of alternative weighting class adjustments for nonresponse when estimating a population mean from complex sample survey data, in an effort to extend the previous work of Little and Vartivarian (2003, 2005) to a complex sample survey setting involving stratified cluster sampling from a finite target population. A total of 30 simulations were performe...
متن کامل1985: Compensating for Wave Nonresponse in the 1979 Isdp Research Panel
The choice between weighting adjustments and imputation for handling missing survey data is generally straightforward: as a rule, weighting adjustments are used for total nonresponse and imputation is used for item nonresponses. There are, however, several situations where the choice is debatable. In general, these are situations of what might be termed partial nonresponse, where some data are ...
